Malaysia is rapidly emerging as a Southeast Asia hotspot for data centre development. In recent years, tech giants like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and ByteDance have flocked to the country.
Between 2021 and March this year, approved project investments reached RM144.4 billion.
However, these data centres - operating 24/7 - require massive amounts of electricity and water. As they scale up rapidly, can our power grid, renewable energy infrastructure, and regulatory mechanisms keep up? And why is the government revisiting the idea of nuclear power?
